Gary Smith (Stealth/Speedstar specialist from S3/Diamond) made a post to the SDN forum, mentioning that the Metal driver for the Viper II for Unreal Tournament is finished, and will be posted in the next few days on S3/Diamond's website. He also has some benchmark results from a PIII450 w/ 128 MB RAM:
640x480 800x600 1024x768 1152x864 1280x1024 16-bit 68 62 56 59 41 32-bit 65 61 57 54 36 In the known issues with the driver, no real serious things are listed:
1. Some versions of the Viper II drivers may cause a GPF when launching the game. Please use the latest available driver from the our web page at www.diamondmm.com if you experience problems launching the game.
2. These drivers are optimized for Unreal Tournament, and may not work properly with other games that utilize the original Unreal engine. It is recommended that other Unreal engine games are played using the D3D rendering option, and not by placing this MeTaL.dll file into the system directory of the game. Future MeTaL versions should work with all current and upcoming Unreal engine based games.
3. Vertical Character displacement in UT Deathmatch menu has been seen, this does not have an impact on game play.
Looking sweet! Expect a download soon.
