Right off the bat in the demo version you are treated to an in-game cut scene similar to the one in Half-Life. You and your squad are flying over the desert in a troop transport about to drop down on Gordon Freeman and his scientific friends and open up a whole Can o' Whupass. Your Sgt. barks orders at you as your squad mates chatter amongst themselves over the roar of the chopper blades.The quality of the modeling and animations in your new team is just the first indication of the lightning fast sucker punch that Gearbox is about to pull on you. After the intro animation, you are into the game and like Half-Life, you are totally sucked into Freeman's world once again.
Everything here is amazing, from the models, to the level design, to the complex scripted sequences and the engaging storyline. Surviving here means listening to the people you encounter and working together with them to solve the problems you will face. In one scene, a soldier with a flamethrower is your only way to cut through a high security door, in another your whole squad works together to defeat a pack of deadly new enemies.
With new weapons to wield and a new alien menace to defeat, it looks like Half-Life is about to get a booster shot of pure gameplay.
