Over bij Site Sieve staat een klein artikel over Anti-aliasing, een feature waar 3dfx nogal op geilt. Hier heb je een stuk uit het artikel.
3dfx is aiming for 1024x768x32bit @ 60fps with full screen anti-aliasing. 2000x2000x32bit color will probably take roughly the same amount of fill-rate as 1024x768x32bit color with AA (Depending on the implementation). The reason 3dfx (among others) is aiming for 1024x768x32bit color with AA is because 1024x768x32bit color w/AA will run on every system with a monitor made during the last millenium. If 99% of user's monitors supported resolutions of 2000x2000, 3dfx would be aiming for 2000x2000x32bit without any form off antialiasing. Since this resolution (movie quality) is not available because output hardware cannot deal with it; 3dfx is taking a hollywood quality rendering and formatting it to fit the average users screen. In order to best replicate the 2000x2000x32bit color frame; Anti-aliasing is required. Therefore, 1024x768x32bit is NOT enough...unless AA is implemented.
