DirectX 7 info

Computer Games Online heeft een artikeltje gepost met info over DirectX 7. Hier heb je een stuk:

So what’s new in DX7? One of the biggest features on the graphics side of the API is support for Transformation and Lighting calculations on the graphics processor. Though no consumer graphics chip does this right now, it’s going to be a major feature of video cards late this year. This will enable developers to use far higher polygon counts in games, without requiring a 700MHz CPU. As far as the progression of PC graphics goes, Kevin said that a common question he was asked throughout the show was about the Playstation 2. People wanted to know if the PC is going to catch up to the specs of the PSX2, and when. Kevin noted that by the time the hype was taken out of the specs and you got down to what real-world useful in-game performance would be, you’re looking at around 10-15 million polygons per second. He assured us that PCs will definitely offer performance that is comparable or superior within the same time frame.
