Abit heeft vandaag versie 2.0 aangekondig van haar populaire BE6-II BX Slot-1 moederbord. Nieuw is de Ultra DMA/100 IDE en RAID functionaliteit in de vorm van de HighPoint HPT370 controller. The lay-out is verder hetzelfde gebleven met 1xAGP, 5xPCI en 1xISA. Hieronder heb je de volledige press release:
ABIT Launches Version 2.0 of the BE6-II!
Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. Thursday, August 31, 2000— ABIT now announces the BE6-II version 2.0, the latest update to ABIT’s most popular BX chipset-based ATX Slot 1 mainboard. To the board’s top-of-the-line features, this revision adds support for the Ultra DMA/100 IDE Protocol and IDE RAID. The specifications also include SoftMenu™ III for setting CPU parameters, providing the easiest and safest environment to achieve ultimate performance.
ATA/100 and RAID The BE6-II v2.0 includes an ATA/100 controller chip that adds two extra IDE ports. Ultra ATA/100, or Ultra DMA/100, is an extension of the current Ultra ATA/33 interface. This new high-speed interface has a 100 Mbytes/sec transfer rate and maximized disk performance under the current PCI local bus environment.
This ATA controller chip also offers the ability to use RAID 0 (striping), RAID 1 (mirroring), and RAID 0+1 (striping + mirroring). The RAID 0 array is designed for performance. By using two hard disks, the information can be split evenly between the two, effectively doubling performance. By setting a RAID 1 array, you are automatically backing up all data. RAID 1 is a mirroring setup that writes the data to both hard disks whenever saving to hard disk. RAID 0+1 gives the user the performance of RAID 0 and the security of RAID 1. Complete with all required components, such as two UDMA/66 compatible cables as well as drivers, the BE6-II v2.0 now makes RAID arrays easy to setup.
Soft Menu™III
The BE6-II v2.0 implements SoftMenu™III technology that allows you to install or upgrade your own CPUs easily. The BE6-II v2.0 BIOS supports a wide range of external clock settings, multipliers from 2 to 8, special multifunction PCI and AGP clock dividers, and front side bus speeds from 66~200MHz (from 83 to 200MHz in increments of one).
The BE6-II v2.0 features one AGP, five PCI and one ISA slot to handle all of your expansion needs. It meets all the specifications for AGP Rev. 1.0, providing improved 3D graphics performance at a lower cost. It includes APM/ACPI power management, USB, PS/2 mouse and keyboard connectors, CPU auto-detect, AWARD write protect anti-virus, Wake On LAN, Suspend to RAM, and hardware health monitoring. APM stands for Advanced Power Management, includes Soft Power On/Off, Sleep, Suspend and Stand-By mode, Real Time Clock (RTC) Alarm and RTC Power On, and Modem Ring On. The networking standards Wake On Lan (WOL) and Wake on Ring are also supported.
Hardware Monitoring
Winbond Hardware Doctor protects PC hardware by monitoring several critical items including power supply voltages, CPU & system fan speeds, and CPU and system temperatures. In order to provide accurate hardware temperature monitoring with the Hardware Doctor, the BE6-II is also equipped with an additional 40cm thermal sensor cable equipped with a 10k-ohm thermistor to assure you the most latitude in designing your hardware monitoring.
