WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a DevOps Engineer you're great at solving complex technical problems that span multiple areas combining software and distributed systems. You will need to have knowledge and experience in software development, automation, DevOps and cloud technologies. You should be able to identify operational patterns and issues and creatively automate solutions working with different internal engineering teams and external customer requirements.
At El Niño we run our own Kubernetes and virtualisation clusters nodes spread over 2 locations in Germany and Finland. Our Gitlab environment is linked to this hosting environment using Gitlab's CI/CD pipelines and deploy strategies. Different high availability services have already been set up like MySQL clusters, Ceph, S3 file system, load balancers, automatic incremental backups/snapshots, monitoring via Grafana and external services like NewRelic and Sentry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintaining the cluster (installing updates when necessary)
- Monitor errors / downtime issues and resolve these
- Come up with improvements on how to make the platform more reliable and faster and implement these
- Collaborate with developers to come up with solutions that can make their work easier when it comes to hosting the projects and running deployment strategies
- You have the space and freedom to experiment with new tools and technologies to offer more services to our customers and/or team
YOUR EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
- 2+ years experience as a System Engineer and/or DevOps Engineer
- You’re able to simplify, prioritise and work under pressure
- Able to identify risks early and put actions in place to mitigate those risks
- Knowledge of nginx, Docker, Grafana, Rancher, Ceph, MySQL cluster setups and load balancers is a plus
- Experience with Kubernetes is a major plus
- Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skill in complex multi-tier distributed system environment
- Comfortable with direct customer communication
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends
