The Role
To help us do this, we are looking for a Product Engineer (f/m/d) who can build clean, user-friendly products that customers love using.
· Your task will be to keep a close eye on user feedback and usage analytics, continually optimizing the product and adapting it to our users' needs.
· If you like empathizing with users in the media industry and want to provide them with elegant tools for writing, research, and creation, then you are ideal for this job.
You will work closely with Sales and Product to learn about the industry’s challenges, and collaborate with our Core Systems Engineers and technical leadership to ensure we deliver highly scalable, user-centric products.
You will be the bridge between complex backends - like our archive solution - and the intuitive interface the user interacts with every day.
This is a hybrid position, combining office-based collaboration in Roermond with the flexibility to work from home.
Your mission
Own the user experience from concept to code
● Act as a true hybrid: use your eye for clean layout and seamless UX to design interfaces, and your engineering skills to build them into production-ready frontend code.
● Translate complex user workflows (for journalists, researchers, and editors) into simple user interfaces.
● Build, maintain, and scale a consistent UI component library/design system that allows us to spin up new product features rapidly.
Continuous optimization driven by data & empathy
● Monitor usage analytics and user feedback loops to identify friction points in the application and proactively eliminate them.
● Iterate on UI/UX improvements based on real-world behavior, ensuring our product evolves with our users' changing habits.
● Ensure the frontend is accessible, responsive, and optimized across all modern browsers and device types.
Partner with the Core Systems team
● Build Full-Slice Features (UI to API): You don't just consume APIs; you help shape them. You'll dive into our Django backend to write clean data endpoints, ensuring the frontend gets exactly what it needs under the mentorship of our Core Systems team.
● Rapid Prototyping & Mocking: Use AI-driven tooling to rapidly prototype backend contracts and mock frontend data in parallel. Once the UI flow is validated, you’ll turn those mocks into production-ready APIs.
Qualifications & Requirements
● The intrinsic driver: You do not wait for permission or ask for the playbook. You notice a clunky user flow, a slow page load, or a confusing UI pattern and you proactively fix it.
● The user-focused builder: You don't just write code to satisfy a ticket; you genuinely care about the person on the other side of the screen. You love talking to Product and Sales to understand the why behind a feature.
● The AI-augmented generalist: You embrace the compression of tech roles. You are excited to own both the UX design thinking and the frontend execution, using modern AI tools to accelerate your workflow.
● Technical grounding: Strong hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue, or Next.js), state management, and modern CSS frameworks (like Tailwind). A solid portfolio or track record of building clean user interfaces and a strong understanding of product analytics tools. In addition, you have an HBO work and thinking level, a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in a similar role, and experience with Python and Django is a must.
What we offer
● An open playing field: We are a small company with limited system complexity and the plan to grow. You will have a lot of autonomy to shape the engineering culture, tools, and processes for the future.
● True Partnership: A seat at the table with company leadership and the ability to influence the strategic direction of international media technology.
● A collaborative and flexible work environment at our European HQ in Roermond. You will be part of a highly committed international team spanning the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Australia.
Additional benefits
● An innovative role with a clear impact on the future of X-CAGO.
● Intensive professional guidance from experienced professionals.
● A dynamic and flexible working environment with room for initiative and personal development.
● Hybrid working opportunities.
● Market-conform employment conditions.
● Plenty of opportunities for professional development and achieving career goals.
● Every Tuesday a complimentary team lunch provided by X-CAGO.
● Monthly team outings.
Application process:
After receiving your motivation letter and CV, you will be invited for an introductory interview. If the first impression is positive for both parties, a second interview will follow to discuss the role in greater depth and to meet several future colleagues. Based on these conversations, we assess whether there is a mutual match for the position.
Ready to Create the Future?
We don’t care about perfect cover letters. We care about your drive, your product judgment, and your vision for building interfaces people love.
How to apply:
If you’re passionate about media technology and have proven that you can bridge the gap between building relationships and ambitious international growth, we’d love to hear from you. Please send your resume and a brief cover letter describing your experience to jobs@x-cago.com.
