Stichting Justice for Prosperity zoekt een hands-on  Lead Software & Data Engineer die meer wil bouwen dan software.

Je ontwerpt, bouwt en beheert de technische basis van een organisatie met een missie. Concreet betekent dit: de data-infrastructuur bouwen achter onze onderzoeken naar manipulatie, desinformatie en bedreigingen van de democratische stabiliteit. Die infrastructuur gaat rechtstreeks naar de onderzoekers die onze democratie en de rechten van kwetsbare groepen beschermen.

We zoeken iemand die houdt van eigenaarschap, dingen goed aanpakt en wil dat het werk meer betekent dan een commercieel resultaat.

Dit is geen managementrol. We hebben een sterke engineer nodig die liever code schrijft dan in vergaderingen zit. Je maakt de architectuurkeuzes, bouwt infrastructuur die schaalt en ontwerpt beveiligde systemen van de grond af.

Wat je gaat doen

Verantwoordelijkheid

• Definieer en beheer de overall technische architectuur en roadmap.
• Neem belangrijke beslissingen over infrastructuur, schaalbaarheid, betrouwbaarheid en beveiliging.
• Stel engineeringstandaarden, best practices en ontwikkelworkflows op.
• Bouw een robuuste technische basis die snelle productgroei ondersteunt.

Software- en data-engineering

• Ontwerp, bouw en onderhoud robuuste end-to-end ELT-pipelines voor gestructureerde en ongestructureerde data.
• Bouw backend-services, API’s, automatiseringen en AI-gedreven workflows.
• Zet schaalbare dataplatforms op met Europese en open-source technologieën.
• Verbind en beheer integraties met externe API’s en systemen van derden.
• Breid onze data lakehouse-architectuur uit en onderhoud deze.
• Transformeer ruwe data naar betrouwbare, gestructureerde en productieklare datasets.

Security & Reliability

Implementeer best practices op het gebied van beveiliging voor applicaties, infrastructuur en dataplatforms.

• Ontwerp systemen die bestand zijn tegen storingen, goed te monitoren en eenvoudig te onderhouden zijn.
• Zorg voor naleving van moderne cybersecuritystandaarden en privacywetgeving (AVG).

Toekomstig teambuilding

• Help de toekomstige technische organisatie vorm te geven.
• Begeleid en leid op termijn extra developers op naarmate het team groeit.
• Draag bij aan keuzes voor uitbreidingen van het team en de cultuur.

Wie jij bent

• Een ervaren (AI-)software-engineer en data-engineer.
• Comfortabel met eigenaarschap zonder intensief toezicht.
• Sterk in Python en/of Node.js.
• Ervaren met SQL, Git, cloudinfrastructuur, API’s en moderne ontwikkeltools.
• Bekend met data-engineering best practices en schaalbare architecturen.
• Kennis van cybersecurity, infrastructuurbeveiliging en veilige softwareontwikkeling.
• In staat technische excellentie te balanceren met pragmatische besluitvorming.
• Een heldere communicator die graag werkt in een klein, gedreven team.
• Enthousiast over bouwen van nul naar één.

Nice to have

• Ervaring met AI-agents, LLM’s, RAG-systemen of AI-productontwikkeling.
• Ervaring met lakehouse-architecturen.
• Bekendheid met Europese cloudproviders en open-source infrastructuurstacks.

We zoeken één uitzonderlijke engineer die vanaf dag één de juiste basis legt. Iemand die hands-on uitvoering combineert met architectuurdenken, infrastructuurexpertise en beveiligingsbewustzijn. Met de juiste persoon op zijn plek geloven we dat we sneller kunnen bewegen, slimmer kunnen bouwen, effectiever kunnen schalen en onze impact ambities werkelijkheid te maken.

Help build/improve the technical foundation to investigate the actors, networks and mechanisms that undermine democracy.

We’re looking for a hands-on  Lead Software & Data Engineer who wants to build more than software.

You’ll design, build, and own the technical foundation of a mission driven organisation. The concrete job is building the data infrastructure behind our investigations into manipulation, disinformation, and threats to democratic stability. That infrastructure goes straight to the investigators who protect our democracy and the rights of vulnerable groups.

We want someone who likes ownership and builds things properly, and who wants the work to count for more than a commercial bottom line.

It is not a management role. We need a strong engineer who’d rather write the code than sit in the meeting about it. You’ll be making the architectural calls, building infrastructure that scales, and designing secure systems from scratch.

What you will do

Ownership

• Define and own the overall technical architecture and roadmap.
• Make key decisions around infrastructure, scalability, reliability, and security.
• Establish engineering standards, best practices, and development workflows.
• Create a robust technical foundation that supports rapid product growth.

Software & Data Engineering

• Design, build, and maintain robust end-to-end ELT pipelines for structured and unstructured data.
• Build backend services, APIs, automations, and AI-driven workflows.
• Set up scalable data platforms using European and open-source technologies where appropriate.
• Connect and manage integrations with external APIs and third-party systems.
• Expand and maintain our data lakehouse architecture.
• Transform raw data into reliable, structured, and production-ready datasets.

Security & Reliability

• Implement security best practices across applications, infrastructure, and data platforms.
• Design systems with resilience, observability, and maintainability in mind.
• Ensure compliance with modern cybersecurity standards and data protection requirements (GDPR).

Future Team Building

• Help shape the future engineering organisation.
• Mentor and eventually lead additional developers as the team grows.
• Contribute to hiring decisions and technical culture

You are

• An experienced (AI-) software engineer and data engineer.
• Comfortable taking ownership without requiring heavy supervision.
• Strong in Python and/or Node.js.
• Experienced with SQL, Git, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and modern development tooling.
• Familiar with data engineering best practices and scalable architectures.
• Knowledgeable about cybersecurity, infrastructure security, and secure software development.
• Able to balance technical excellence with pragmatic decision-making.
• A clear communicator who enjoys working in a small, mission-driven team.
• Excited by building from zero to one.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI agents, LLMs, RAG systems, or AI product development.
• Experience with lakehouse architectures.
• Familiarity with European cloud providers and open-source infrastructure stacks.
