Secrets of the Dark Web revealed

The invention of Bitcoin in 2009 heralded a decade of innovation in financial technology including the expertdevelopment of alternative cryptocurrencies, distributed ledger technologies, and new payment methods. These innovations provide opportunities to support crimes, especially for dark markets, money laundering, and terrorist funding. This presentation addresses the learnings for the development community and discussed challenges to combat these crimes with counter technologies.

Dr. Mark van Staalduinen works as a cybercrime expert for INTERPOL Singapore and is specialized in the disruption and frustration of criminal innovations abusing cyberspace and new technologies, specifically Dark Web, Blockchain and IoT.

To realize this ambition, he drives cybersecurity beyond the state of the art by leverage on two core deliverables. First, roadmap and platform development to identify solutions for these specific cybersecurity challenges. Second deliverable targets research and development in this challenge space to translate artificial intelligence and data-driven proof of concepts into operational, sustainable and affordable solutions.

He is director of CyberDevOps with focus areas: Dark Web, Blockchain and IoT Security.
