About the Role

As a member of a team of developers, you will realise projects and build services in which geo-information and Earth Observation data play a central role. We make our unique datasets available via various APIs.

Processing, storing and making this data available presents many technical challenges. For example, do you know the fastest way to process satellite images from around the world? Or can you adapt a state-of-the-art deep learning architecture to estimate the height of trees? How do we get the most out of our data with foundation models or other new deep learning approaches?

Together with the team, you look for creative solutions and the best approach to process this huge amount of data. You will also help build lightning-fast tools that take our production to the next level. You will thus be involved in the entire complex process of turning satellite, aerial photo and point cloud data into a usable end product.

What you will do

  • Training, validating and applying deep learning models, mainly for object detection and segmentation tasks
  • Designing, developing and optimising Python modules for geospatial data processing
  • Implementing data processing pipelines n in our Docker + Ray processing platform
  • Working with large geospatial and satellite datasets
  • Ensuring code quality through unit and integration testing
  • Participate in code reviews, documentation and joint development

Who we are looking for

You communicate effectively, are proactive and spot opportunities or problems in time. You have a hands-on mentality and affinity with innovation and development. You will contribute to the further growth of our company and have plenty of room to take initiative.

We are looking for people with the following knowledge and experience:

  • Experience with object-oriented programming (Python)
  • Experience with PyTorch
  • Strong Python skills
  • Creative and "out of the box", but with a focus on the end goal
  • Experience with Git
  • Experience with databases (e.g. PostgreSQL)
  • 0-2 years of work experience in this field

Bonus if you also have experience with (not required)

  • Affinity with remote sensing and Earth Observation data (aerial and satellite images)
  • Docker
  • Foundation models
  • Developing APIs (FastAPI)
  • Geo software such as GDAL and QGIS
  • Familiarity with OGC standards (e.g. WMS, STAC, etc.).
  • Parallelisation frameworks (e.g. Ray / Spark / Dask)
