The AI team at ABN AMRO is searching for an AI Engineer with a strong passion for Generative AI (GenAI), an innovative outlook, and entrepreneurial mindset. As part of ABN AMRO's Innovation division, our AI team works across the bank to design and implement GenAI solutions that deliver measurable impact. We are looking for imaginative and enthusiastic individuals who are excited to push the boundaries of GenAI and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment. Our AI engineers are adaptable professionals; full-stack developers who not only possess expertise in engineering but also have a deep affinity for and experience with Generative AI and its latest innovations.

Your job

You'll work on a portfolio of use cases that range from improving customer contact (e.g. voicebot) to revolutionizing the way how we interact with documents by leveraging GenAI. As an AI engineer you'll be working with colleagues from the team on projects across the bank. We take care of the full development cycle from exploring and identifying opportunities, experimenting, and creating prototypes, to developing scalable products. Effectively this means that per specific use-case our focus can be on a variety of Engineering solutions ranging from Backend to Frontend, from leveraging LLMs to agentic AI.

Your activities include:

• Participate in the ideation and design of AI solutions with (business) stakeholders and business experts

• Experiment and implement new AI technologies (like agentic AI) and AI solutions in our bank wide projects (e.g. in Financial Crime or Operations)

• Provide expertise to other departments on how to build and scale successful AI solutions.

Working environment

You'll be part of the AI Team of the Innovation division in Amsterdam and we provide ample opportunities for hybrid working. We have a start-up vibe. Your team consists of people (25+) with a passion for AI and we work every day to create (measurable) impact for the bank. There is an open team atmosphere where initiative is encouraged, and we provide daily coaching for juniors in our teams.

Your profile

As an AI Engineer within the Innovation department at ABN AMRO, you will serve as a "blended expert." While this role does not require you to be a Data Scientist or an IT Engineer specifically, a strong interest in both fields and a commitment to developing expertise in each are essential. You'll need excellent problem-solving skills to be successful in this role by being able to translate complex business problems in tangible AI solutions.

Therefore, we are seeking a candidate who can demonstrate this combination through relevant prior experience, whether gained in professional roles, side jobs, academic pursuits, or extracurricular activities.

Experience

• You have a Masters degree in the field of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or Mathematics
• You have hands-on experience with coding, this can be Backend, Frontend, Full-stack or API development creating end-to-end solutions for an internship, side-job or hobby
• You are familiar with the 'tools of the trade', e.g. Python, Databricks, Git…
• You are up to date on the latest developments within AI and can guide others in finding optimal solutions

Personality profile:

• You have a sense for business, and understand how AI and machine learning deliver value
• You are pragmatic and value-focused, e.g. not afraid to work with existing solutions to reduce time-to-market
• You are able to communicate effectively with technical and business counterparts
• You are a teamplayer that requires minimal steering to be productive
• You are up to date on the latest developments within AI and can guide others in finding optimal solutions
• You have an entrepreneurial (product driven) mindset and are a self-starter.

We are offering

• A competitive yearly salary ranging from EUR 50.000 - EUR 70.000 all-in annual salary based on 36 hours with the possibility to work 40 hours (pro-rated)
