"Well what drivers progress of course is innovation and competition. AMD has been producing the Athlon for over a year now and we we are ahead of schedule on our roadmap as far as speed grades go. As I said, we began shipping our 1.1 Ghz a little bit ahead of schedule and we will have announcements of major manufactures offering systems with that CPU in less than two weeks. We expect to continue the ramp with speeds of 1.2 and faster and partly thereafter."
"We were the first out with the 1Ghz processor and we are shipping hundreds and thousands of 1Ghz processors and we are a real player in the Ghz race. Intel has a paper launch and it is very hard to find a Ghz processor by Intel. But I think more importantly than that the clock speed is just one measure of performance but when you look at PCs build with Intel processors vs. AMD Athlon processors, at any given clock speed we outperform the Intel processor. Umm, I think a Gateway machine was put up against a Dell machine. Gateway had an Athlon and Dell had a Pentium 3....we blew it away."
