VMWare heeft een bčtarelease uitgebracht van Workstation 5.0. Met dit programma kunnen virtuele computers worden aangemaakt op de computer, waarop hetzelfde of een compleet ander besturingssysteem kan worden geďnstalleerd. Deze virtuele pc's kunnen onderling met elkaar communiceren via een virtueel netwerk. Er is een hoop veranderd in versie 5.0. Zo is er onder andere ondersteuning voor 64-bits besturingssystemen, Longhorn Workstation 5 en Mandrake 10 bijgekomen. Verder is ook de performance verbeterd.
