Systems Engineer

VSPARTICLE is a nanotechnology scale-up on a mission to change the world of material development. To make clean energy possible, new materials need to be developed. We create technologies to unlock and accelerate the discovery of novel materials with unique properties that can contribute to solve the world’s biggest challenges, including next generation sensors, batteries and fuel cells. We are a diverse group of around 30 people, working together to develop, sell and support our equipment from our office in the city centre of Delft.

Your job with us

VSParticle is looking for a systems engineer who can help us maintain and scale up the IT infrastructure in such a way that the systems continue to run smoothly and efficiently as our organisation grows.

You will work closely with our COO with whom you can brainstorm about technical issues. At VSP you get the opportunity to interpret your role yourself and to make proposals for improvement. In the end, it is the intention that you carry out the technical projects/ activities independently as much as possible.

Furthermore, you like to get to the bottom of things in order to get the best technical solution for VSP and you make sure that you are up to date with the latest developments in IT.

Your responsibilities

• Manage, upgrade and scale our Windows Server infrastructure
• Select, set up and deploy workplace equipment
• Configure and scale our Microsoft 365 environment
• Support the deployment of new locations and client systems, meeting the needs of office workers and lab scientists
• Deploy, upgrade and maintain our Linux-based application servers and containers
• Protect data, software and infrastructure by coordinating, planning and implementing security best practices
• Maintain and update our network infrastructure
• Help scale our Linux-based lab infrastructure to meet gigantic data challenges

Your professional qualities

• Completed ICT training at hbo level
• 3-5 years of broad relevant work experience
• Comfortable with mixed Windows/Linux environments
• Hands-on, service-minded, independent worker

You are broadly familiar with Microsoft technologies such as (Azure) AD, AD CS, NPS, DFS, DNS and ADFS and you have several years of experience in the design, deployment and maintenance of Linux-based (Debian/RHEL) application servers or containers. You are familiar with configuration management tools (Puppet/Ansible) and one of more of the following apply to you:

• You enjoy working in a mixed Windows/Linux environment
• You have an MCSE/RHCE or equivalent role-based certification related to the above technologies
• You don’t avoid the cloud or on-premises, but strive to make the best of both worlds
• You have experience with Windows Server virtualisation (Hyper-V and/or Amazon EC2)
• You know your way around Amazon EC2, RDS and VPC
• Bare metal deployment or container? You know which one fits best in each situation.
• Enthusiastic about learning DevOps, CI/CD and scaling
• Practical experience with networking in a small/medium business environment

We offer a full-time job ( 40 hours) in an informal, professional and international working environment in Delft.  32 hours per week  is negotiable.
