Sales at Nokia rose 17% to 7.4 billion euros ($9.63 billion) as it shipped a total 54 million phones, 20% more than last year, helped by demand in China, and extending its lead over its biggest rival, Motorola, which increased shipments 13%.
Motorola said its global share of cell phones rose to 17.1%, up 1.4 percentage points from a year ago, and the highest level since late 2002.
Nokia's efforts to revamp its line-up with more flip phones are starting to pay off, analysts said, even though its market share narrowed slightly to 32%.
