DOJ doet uitspraak: Microsoft schuldig bevonden

Diverse nieuwssites melden dat rechter Thomas Penfield Jackson uitspraak heeft gedaan in de anti-trustzaak tegen Microsoft. Volgens Jackson heeft Microsoft herhaaldelijk de Sherman Antitrust Act geschonden. In de komende maanden zal duidelijk worden welke sancties er tegen Microsoft opgelegd zullen worden:

Microsoft repeatedly violated U.S. antitrust laws, a federal judge ruled in a far-reaching decision that promises to reshape the computer industry and weaken the company's current dominance in the personal computer field.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson said in his decision released Monday afternoon that Microsoft (MSFT) relied on "technological shackles" to keep rival products from effectively competing with its Internet Explorer browser and ran afoul of the Sherman Act's restrictions on anticompetitive conduct.

[...] In the next few months Jackson will announce what penalties he will impose on Microsoft. But Microsoft's loss during this key round likely will embolden competitors and foreshadow a new wave of private antitrust suits that promise to distract the company's management for years to come.
