Intel ontwikkelt op Sourceforge een aantal drivers voor zijn Ethernet-producten op het Linux-platform en deze worden onder de GPL uitgebracht. Sinds kort is er een nieuwe driver beschikbaar voor de Intel Pro/1000 gigabit Ethernet-producten. Het versienummer is aangekomen bij 6.0.60 en het changelog ziet er als volgt uit:

• Support ‘identify adapter’ feature for 82573 controller
• Fix ethtool register test failure with 82573 controller
• Add debug log information to help diagnose Tx unit in the controller hung condition – data logged to syslog
• Fix ethtool to display a warning if speed/duplex is set to invalid combinations (on fiber adapters) as well as tx_csum and advertising issues
• Use netdev_priv macro instead of de-referencing the priv member of netdev structure directly
• Fix WoL settings reported incorrectly for 82544 based adapters
• Fix synchronization issue causing the bonding driver not be reliably obtain link status via the mii_ioctl interface
• Support for MODULE_VERSION
• Fix flow control parameter initialization error (only on 2.6 kernels)
• Fixed ethtool register test failure for devices >= 82571 and loopback test for 82571, 82572 devices
• Fixed the loopback test failure for 82573 based adapters.
• Fix endian-ness error while processing VLAN tags in e1000_clean_rx_irq_ps
• Included proposals to false late collisions due to latencies in the PHY interface
