Apple heeft zonet een patch klaargezet voor Mac OS X, waardoor het besturingssysteem een upgrade krijgt naar versie 10.4.8. De update is uitgebracht voor zowel PowerPC- als Intel-systemen en lost een aantal problemen op met betrekking tot USB-hardware. De download bevat ook een aantal beveiligingsupdates, die ook beschikbaar zijn gesteld voor Mac OS X 10.3.9. De 10.4.8-update staat in schril contrast met wat Apple begin volgend jaar zal uitbrengen, want dan staat namelijk Mac OS X 10.5 'Leopard' op de planning. Belangrijke nieuwe programma's in Leopard zijn onder meer Time Machine, Spaces en Boot Camp, die in dit nieuwsartikel besproken evenals andere nieuwe features van 10.5. Vooralsnog moeten Apple-gebruikers het nog doen met 10.4.8, waarvan de release notes hieronder gepost zijn:

- avoiding AFP server deadlocks and thread starvation
- streaming movies to localized versions of the QuickTime Player
