De ontwikkelaars van ATI hebben de achtste release van de Catalyst-drivers van dit jaar officieel uitgebracht. Catalyst 8.8 kan via deze pagina voor Windows XP, Windows XP Media Center Edition, Windows Vista en de x64-versies van Windows gedownload worden. Nieuw in deze versie zijn onder meer de verbeterde Avivo-mogelijkheden en de ondersteuning van Hybrid Graphics onder Windows XP. Verder zijn de gebruikelijke fixes doorgevoerd voor een groot aantal games en applicaties, waaronder Unreal Tournament 3, Lost Planet en Adobe After Effects. Catalyst™ Control Center: New Avivo video features
  • Dynamic Gamma/Contrast correction, available on the ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series, improves video image quality by delivering more vivid color in content with sharp contrasts and scenes with low and bright images.
  • Improved video presets, available for the ATI Radeon™ HD 3000 and ATI Radeon™ 4800 Series, delivers a newly optimized video presets that users can select depending on what kind of video content they are viewing.
  • Windows XP support: Edge enhancement, which adjusts the level of sharpness of video content and Noise Reduction, which removes ghosting artifacts while preserving details of the original video. The new slider controls can be found in the All Settings page of the Avivo Video tab found in the Catalyst™ Control Center
Hybrid Graphics Support for Windows XP
    This release of Catalyst™ introduces Hybrid Graphics support. Hybrid Graphics delivers a significant 3D performance boost for systems featuring an AMD 780G/780D integrated graphics motherboard and an ATI Radeon™ HD 3400 Series or ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series graphics accelerator. It also provides support for up to four independent displays

Onder XP draai ik al tijden 3 displays, en volgens mij werkt m'n HDMI/DVI ook gewoon als extra.

In m'n bios moet ik dan bij een Asus M3A78-EHM HDMI de optie "SurroundView" aan zetten
3 is toch geen 4 of wel?
Hybrid? dat is toch dat er 1 of meer kaarten worden uitgeschakeld en wordt de onboard GPU op de desktop gebruikt? wel mooi dat hij dan nog steeds tot 4 schermen kan blijven aanspreken (ws via de andere 2 videokaarten)
Dat surround view is een optie die los staat van hybrid crossfire. Het is al tijden mogelijk om 4 monitors aan te sturen als je een IGP chipset van ATI hebt en een discrete videokaart van ATI op dat moederbord hebt geplaatst. Waarschijnlijk was het met hybrid crossfire zo dat je tot nog toe slechts 2 monitors kon aansturen.
De nieuwe Catalyst 8.9 drivers zijn gereleased. Dit is de official final release via de site van AMD/ATI te downloaden.
Ik heb de drivers getest. Mensen die problemen hebben met de catalyst 8.8 en Sapphire videokaarten die crashen/hangen etc. ik heb de 8.9 catalyst drivers getest en bij mij heeft het geholpen en heb geen crashes en hangs meer met oudere OpenGL games...
Weet iemand of de "ATI Radeon™ HD 4800 Series Hotfix" vervat zit in deze nieuwe catalyst 8.8 release. Ik vind er nergens iets van terug in de release notes.

Die is verouderd en van voor Catalyst 8.7 (toen er geen "officiŽle" driver was voor de HD4800 serie)
hotfix is overbodig geworden met de nieuwere drivers.
Weet iemand hoe je Catalyst installeert op een Acer Aspire 5672? Deze heeft een ATI X1600 aan boord, maar als ik probeer te installeren meldt de installer dat Acer de support levert voor deze latop en dat de generieke Catalyst niet geÔnstalleerd kan worden. Nu wil het geval dat Acer al ruim 1,5 jaar geen nieuwe versie van Catalyst specifiek voor mijn laptop heeft uitgebracht. Terwijl de nieuwe Catalysts gewoon wťl 24Hz kunnen uitsturen via DVI, maar de Acer driver kan dit niet.

Wat is er zo speciaal aan de Acer versie van Catalyst dat alleen Acer zelf de driver kan uitleveren?

Is er eventueel workaround waarop ik toch de generieke Catalyst kan installeren?

Ah, thanks! Maar wel twijfelachtig dat je UAC / Admin rechten moet hebben om een driver te patchen. Voor het installeren van de driver natuurlijk wel, maar een patcher die Admin rechten moet hebben klinkt als een spyware installer.

Hoe veilig is die mobility modder? Worden echt executables gewijzigd of alleen een .ini bestandje?
Er wordt toch het een en ander gewijzigd, msi's enzo, Vista zegt ook dat je drivers onveilig zijn, maar issue's heb ik nog nooit gehad :)
Als je de download link volgt zie je dat er een aparte 4800 hotfix aangeboden wordt.
Yep, dat heb ik gezien, maar het is toch een beetje raar dat ze deze hotfix niet implementeren in hun nieuwe release?
Die hot fix is 2 maanden oud. Als je naar de datum kijkt wanneer de inhoud voor het laatst is aangepast kan je het zien dat het voor het laatst is aangepast op 20-6-2008

waarschijnlijk zit hij er volgende maand wel in omdat het whql-testen 3 maanden duurt. (ik neem aan dat de datum van het bericht van THE_FIREFOX klopt)
Mijn mond viel eerlijk gezegt open van de 'resolved issues van vista'. Manman wat een waslijst.
Nou in ieder geval mooi dat ze flink aan het patchen zijn!

Mijn Asus X850P wordt niet meer herkend door deze versie... bij 8.7 wel. :'(

Same here, HD4850 met Vista 64 ultimate, bij volledig schone driverinstall... Lijkt een breed probleem als ik zo meer mensen hierover spreek...
Hier ook niet...ik heb een HD4870 onder Vista Premium + SP1...zelfde melding.
Hier ook met de 4850 met aangepaste firmware van orginele firmware.., terug zetten van orgineel firmware verhielp het probleem.
Maar vervolgens heel veel problemen met de stabiliteit van het systeem, catalyst 8.7 weer terug gezet en problemen zijn voorbij...
Iemand al ervaringen met HD4850 crossfire en Crysis? Er gaan geruchten rond dat de 8.8beta soms wel 5-10fps verbetering gaf? :9~ Kan niet wachten totdat ik straks thuis ben om ze te proberen, je wilt niet weten hoe vaak ik gisteren wel niet heb lopen refreshen op de amd site... ;)
